The government has introduced a new approach to school placement, allowing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates to select Senior High Schools after receiving their results.
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said this aims to improve the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and help students make informed decisions.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, April 1, he explained that candidates will have a one-week window to choose schools post-results.
Previously, students selected schools without knowing their grades, affecting placement outcomes.
“In the past, students selected schools without knowing their aggregate, and that affected the placement system. This time, we’ll provide a mandatory period of one week after results are declared for students to confirm their choices based on performance,” he said.
The Minister believes the new approach will increase fairness, reduce placement issues, and boost efficiency in Senior High School admissions.
