The Ministry of Energy has called on the public to remain patient as the Electricity Company of Ghana rolls out a major transformer upgrade programme to improve power supply and reliability in parts of Accra.
The exercise, which began on Wednesday, April 7, targets key substations and surrounding communities, including Adenta, La, Teshie–Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa and Lashibi. Residents in these areas are expected to experience temporary power outages while the upgrade works are underway.
The programme forms part of broader efforts by government and ECG to tackle network overloads, reduce frequent power interruptions and strengthen electricity distribution in fast-growing urban communities.
According to Richmond Rockson, spokesperson and Director of Communications at the Ministry, the temporary inconvenience is necessary to achieve long-term improvements.
“We ask the public to kindly bear with the government and ECG as these transformer upgrade works are implemented. Although there will be temporary power interruptions, these improvements are necessary for a more reliable and resilient power supply in the long term,” he said.
ECG indicated that the project will be executed in phases to minimise disruption, with the duration of outages varying depending on the location and scale of work. Residents have been advised to plan accordingly and follow official ECG communication channels for updates.
Both the Ministry and ECG have assured the public of their commitment to completing the upgrades efficiently while minimising inconvenience.
