President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that persons named in Auditor-General’s reports will now face trial in newly set up High Courts, a move aimed at boosting accountability in public finance management.
Addressing this year’s May Day event in Koforidua, the President thanked the Chief Justice and the Judiciary for establishing extra High Courts, calling it a major boost to justice delivery.
“I want to thank the Chief Justice and the Judiciary for setting up the newly created additional High Courts.”
He noted that the new courts will specifically take up cases involving individuals cited in Auditor-General’s reports, adding to current accountability tools.
“From this year, persons indicted in the Auditor General’s report will be prosecuted in these new courts, in addition to the Auditor General’s power of disallowance and surcharge,” he said.
