NDC Operative Criticises Government Appointees Over Treatment of Grassroots Supporters

An outspoken operative of the opposition National Democratic Congress, James Agbey, has accused some government appointees of arrogance and disrespect toward grassroots supporters of the party.

In a press statement, Mr Agbey alleged that several appointees under the administration of John Dramani Mahama had become “demigods” who now treat party footsoldiers with contempt after assuming office.

“As a longstanding operative, active and loyal member of the National Democratic Congress, I am infuriated by the continuous disdainful attitude of government appointees towards NDC grassroots membership and footsoldiers,” he stated.

According to him, political appointees owe their positions to the sacrifices and commitment of party activists and should therefore remain accessible and respectful to them.

Mr Agbey argued that claims by some appointees that they were appointed to serve Ghana rather than NDC supporters reflected what he described as extreme arrogance.

He singled out Kwesi Afrey Biney, accusing the Social Security and National Insurance Trust boss of repeatedly turning away party supporters.

“Who told this ingrate that he would be serving as SSNIT boss if NDC was still languishing in opposition?” he questioned.

Mr Agbey further claimed that some appointees had forgotten the role played by grassroots supporters in returning the party to power and were now “feeding fat on the sweat of ordinary party people.”

He warned that growing frustration among party loyalists could negatively affect the image of both the government and the NDC if the situation was not addressed.

“The arrogance and disdain must stop, and it must stop now,” he stressed.

The NDC operative also referenced President Mahama’s inaugural message delivered on January 7, 2025, in which the President cautioned government officials against arrogance and disrespect.

“President Mahama’s message on his investiture was clear: ‘I’ll not tolerate disrespect and arrogance in my government,’” he noted.

Mr Agbey urged government appointees to demonstrate humility, tolerance and openness in their interactions with both the public and party supporters.

“By every standard of civility, culture, and political hierarchy, the grassroots deserves a respectful and dignified reception whenever they call on any of President Mahama’s appointees,” he said.

He concluded by encouraging party loyalists to speak out against what he described as growing intolerance within government circles.
