The Ghana Grid Company and the Electricity Company of Ghana have announced planned and emergency maintenance exercises across parts of the Volta and Ashanti regions on Friday, May 22, 2026.

The maintenance works, aimed at upgrading critical power infrastructure, are expected to cause temporary power outages in several communities.

According to advisories issued by the power distributor, the outages will begin at 9:00 a.m., with restoration times varying depending on the scope of work at each location.

Volta Region

In the Volta Region, two separate planned maintenance exercises have been scheduled.

The first exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will affect communities including Kpataxoe, Tsita, Tongor, Atoklokpo, Dzakiti, Tsanakpe, Fantikope, Agordeke, Dzemeni and surrounding areas.

A second maintenance operation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., affecting Bowiri, Apenkwa, Bodada, Jasikan and nearby communities.

Ashanti Region

In the Ashanti Region, GRIDCo will carry out emergency maintenance works at the Asawinso Bulk Supply Point from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The exercise is expected to affect a wide range of communities, including Chirano, Nambro, Subri, Anwiaso, Akyease, Kwamekrom, Bibiani, Mensin Gold, Tanodumase, Nyinahin, Ntobroso and surrounding areas.

The planned eight-hour outage is also expected to affect mining operations in the area, including activities at Mensin Gold.

In separate public notices, ECG and GRIDCo apologised to customers for the inconvenience the outages may cause to both households and businesses.

The companies assured the public that the maintenance exercises are necessary to strengthen the power distribution network and improve long-term electricity supply reliability across the affected regions.
