The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that a major fire outbreak caused by a collision between a fuel tanker and a tipper truck on the Accra–Tema Motorway has been successfully extinguished.

In an update on the incident, the Fire Service said firefighters responded promptly to the scene and brought the blaze under control after the crash triggered a fire.

“The fire involving a crashed fuel tanker and tipper truck on the Accra–Tema Motorway has been completely extinguished,” the GNFS stated.

The Service described the incident as a fatal crash and fire outbreak, although details regarding the number of casualties have not yet been released.

Emergency personnel remain at the scene conducting recovery operations and post-fire assessments.

“Recovery operations remain ongoing at the scene as emergency responders continue with post-fire activities and investigations,” the statement added.

Authorities have yet to determine the circumstances that led to the collision, and investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the crash.

The incident caused significant concern among motorists and commuters using the busy motorway, with emergency responders moving swiftly to contain the fire, secure the area and prevent further danger.

The Ghana National Fire Service said additional information would be provided as investigations progress. Authorities are expected to release further details, including casualty figures and preliminary findings, in the coming hours.

Meanwhile, road users have been advised to exercise caution when travelling through the affected area as recovery and clean-up operations continue.
