The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2028 flag-bearer contest is tightening, with National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, still in front, even as Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, narrows the gap, a new Global InfoAnalytics survey shows.

The poll puts Mr Asiedu Nketia at 27% backing among NDC delegates. That is a slight dip from the 29% he had in the April 2026 survey. Dr Forson, however, has picked up steam. His numbers rose from 19% to 22% in the latest poll.

The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, saw the steepest fall, sliding from 11% to 6%.

Support for Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang also dipped from 8% to 7%, while ex-Chief of Staff Julius Debrah fell from 8% to 5%.

Prof Joshua Alabi and Eric Opoku each polled 1%.

The share of undecided delegates jumped to 30%, up from 24% in April. The survey also tested opinion on party leadership. 61% said Mr Asiedu Nketiah should stay on as National Chairman, 26% disagreed, and 13% had no view. There is growing backing for Dr Forson to front the NDC against the NPP’s likely candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. 58% said the party should field the economist Dr Forson to face fellow economist Dr Bawumia.

23% were against the idea and 19% were unsure. Notably, one in four delegates who back Mr Asiedu Nketia also said Dr Forson should lead the party into 2028.In a straight duel, the two are neck and neck. Mr Asiedu Nketia has 34% to Dr Forson’s 33%, with 33% undecided. In April, the Chairman led 37% to 32%.

Mr Asiedu Nketia fared better against other names. He leads Mr Iddrisu 45% to 16%, with 39% undecided. In April it was 42% to 22%.

He also leads Prof Opoku-Agyemang 46% to 15%, with 39% undecided. That margin was 46% to 11% in April.Against Mr Debrah, the Chairman is ahead 45% to 16%, with 39% undecided.

The April result was 43% to 18%.Regionally, Dr Forson is stronger in key battlegrounds. In Greater Accra, Central and Western regions, he leads with 29% to Mr Asiedu Nketia’s 23%.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang has 8%, Mr Debrah 5%, and Mr Iddrisu 4%, with 27% undecided. In the Akan belt — Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Central, Eastern, Western and Western North — Mr Asiedu Nketia leads 27% to 25%. Prof Opoku-Agyemang polled 6%, Mr Debrah 5%, and Mr Iddrisu 3%, while 31% are undecided. The results point to Mr Asiedu Nketia keeping an early edge in the race for the NDC’s 2028 ticket, but with Dr Forson rapidly emerging as his main rival.
