The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 12-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man after a viral video showed the minor driving a DAF XF 105 articulated truck with registration number GS 3097-20.

According to the police, the 34-year-old suspect is believed to be the truck’s driver and is accused of allowing the child to operate the heavy-duty vehicle. Both suspects are currently in the custody of the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Accra, where they are assisting with ongoing investigations.

The arrests followed widespread public concern after the video circulated on social media, raising questions about road safety and the supervision of heavy-duty vehicles.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service cautioned parents, guardians and vehicle owners against permitting minors or unlicensed persons to drive motor vehicles, particularly articulated trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles.

The police stressed that such conduct violates the Road Traffic Act and poses a serious threat to the lives of motorists, passengers and pedestrians.

The Service also appealed to the public to support efforts to improve road safety by reporting similar incidents and encouraging responsible use of the country’s roads.
