Ghanaian artiste Gyakie has shared her harrowing experience during the 2023 AfroNation festival in Portugal, where her manager, Electro Mirror, was allegedly assaulted by security personnel. Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on May 23, 2025, Gyakie described the incident as traumatic, revealing that it still evokes unpleasant memories.
“It really makes me shudder to talk about it because it opens wounds that have already been healed,” she said. Despite having to perform on the same day, Gyakie recalled receiving numerous calls about the incident, which made her see things differently.
The incident, captured on video, showed Electro Mirror being pinned down and choked by security personnel, sparking widespread outrage. Gyakie has since cautioned that the entertainment industry is fraught with challenges, emphasizing the need for artists to be cautious.
Meanwhile, Gyakie is preparing to release her debut album, “After Midnight,” with the first single, “Sankofa,” already out. This comes after she released two EPs, and fans are eagerly anticipating the full album.
