The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced planned power interruptions in parts of the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, August 23, as emergency works continue on a damaged transmission tower at Ashaiman.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, GRIDCo said the affected tower forms part of the 161kV Tema–Achimota transmission line and was damaged following a tanker explosion in the area.
According to the company, its engineers and technical teams will carry out the next phase of the tower replacement works from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
GRIDCo explained that electricity supply to some communities will be temporarily interrupted during the exercise to ensure the safety of workers and members of the public and to enable the technical teams to complete the repairs.
The power transmission company said it is collaborating with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to minimise the impact of the planned outage on affected customers and communities.
GRIDCo apologised for the inconvenience the interruption may cause and appealed to residents and businesses in the affected areas to exercise patience and cooperate with the technical teams as the emergency works are completed.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this interruption will cause and request the patience, understanding and cooperation of the public,” GRIDCo said.
