Parliament has approved the nominations of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Ministers for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Environment, Science and Technology respectively.
The approvals were given through a voice vote on Thursday evening, August 27, 2026, after both nominees were vetted by Parliament’s Appointments Committee earlier in the day.
The Speaker declared that the Ayes had it, in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
During her vetting, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings outlined her priorities for addressing environmental challenges, including climate finance, plastic waste management and investment in scientific research and innovation.
She called for increased support for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to develop biodegradable alternatives to conventional plastics and proposed stronger measures to prevent landfill pollution.
Mr Ayariga, meanwhile, answered questions on local governance, chieftaincy and religious affairs during his appearance before the committee.
The parliamentary approval clears the way for both nominees to assume their respective ministerial responsibilities, subject to the completion of the remaining constitutional processes.
