The raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, was lawful and warranted, according to Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka. The operation, which took place on March 19, 2025, at Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge home in Accra, was conducted under a valid court warrant.
A team of about 20 armed men, led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, stormed the property, disabling the CCTV system and searching for alleged “vaults.” However, Dr. Addison denied the existence of any vaults or large sums of cash, and none were found.
The incident sparked widespread criticism, with some labeling it “unprecedented and disturbing.” But Minister Muntaka defended the operation in Parliament, stating that it followed due legal procedure. He revealed that an ex parte search warrant was filed and obtained from the High Court in Accra on March 12, 2025.
Muntaka assured that the search was conducted in strict adherence to due process and in the presence of Dr. Addison. The Minister’s defense of the operation has sparked debate, with many questioning the necessity and implications of the raid.
