Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye says he questioned Carlos Queiroz’s suitability to lead the Black Stars before the Portuguese coach’s appointment was confirmed.
Speaking on Joy FM, Vanderpuye said Queiroz’s profile did not match the needs of the squad following Otto Addo’s dismissal. He also expressed concerns about the recruitment process.
“I don’t trust the procedures, the process by which this coach, (Carlos Quieroz), was appointed. When did the Black Stars inform you and me that they were going to look for a coach? They told us they had over 99 applications; all of a sudden, a coach was appointed,” he said.
Vanderpuye said he had studied Queiroz’s coaching record and questioned whether those responsible for selecting him had adequately considered the kind of coach the team needed.
Queiroz has recorded one victory in seven matches across all competitions since taking charge.
His side lost their opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, suffering defeats against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké and The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The results leave Ghana bottom of their qualifying group without a point ahead of the next round of fixtures.
