The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says it has brought a yellow fever outbreak under control following the confirmation of four cases in parts of the country between September and the first half of October 2026.
Director-General of the GHS, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, disclosed that the confirmed cases were recorded in Sissala West, Wa West, Etu and Nadowli-Kaleo, with laboratory samples sent to Dakar, Senegal, for confirmation.
Speaking on TV3 on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Dr Akoriyea said health authorities had responded by introducing vaccination interventions in the affected areas to prevent further transmission.
“We had an outbreak of yellow fever, but it has been curtailed. Between September and the first half of October, we recorded cases, more than two in this case, that came confirmed from Dakar,” he said.
He confirmed that four cases had been officially established, explaining that the vaccination exercise was among the key interventions implemented to contain the outbreak.
Dr Akoriyea further disclosed that the GHS was investigating reports of deaths in some affected communities to determine whether they were linked to yellow fever, following speculation surrounding the incidents.
He assured that the investigations were ongoing as health authorities continued monitoring the situation.
