Ghana’s dream of having its own national airline again has taken a major step forward.
President John Dramani Mahama has met with officials from Boeing, the American aviation giant, and the company has given a positive preliminary assessment of the project. Boeing has also pledged to support Ghana’s efforts to re-establish a national carrier.
Following the meeting, both sides have agreed on a roadmap for setting up the airline. The roadmap covers finding strategic and technical partners, securing an Air Operator Certificate, choosing the fleet, and arranging financing.
The Boeing delegation further assured President Mahama that the company will continue to support Ghana throughout both the establishment and operational phases.
The project is expected to boost the use of Ghana’s airport infrastructure, strengthen Accra’s push to become a leading aviation hub in West Africa, and create jobs across the aviation industry.
President Mahama has previously said he is optimistic that Ghana will have a national airline flying before his tenure ends in January 2029.
