The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will close some roads in the Central Business District this December to create more trading space for the Christmas season.
The announcement was made by Accra Mayor, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, during the November edition of the national sanitation exercise.
He said the move will allow traders without permanent shops to sell their goods and make more sales during the festivities.
The road from the Cocoa Board area to Kantamanto will be closed for the exercise. The Mayor said this follows a directive from the Local Government Minister, Mahama Ayariga.
“We want you to make more sales this December than you have ever done. The Local Government Minister has asked us to block some of the roads to create space for traders who do not have shops to sell their goods.
The stretch from Cocoa Board to Kantamanto will be closed,” he told the traders.
He also urged them to take advantage of the opportunity to maximise their sales.Meanwhile, the Mayor has ordered traders operating at bus stops to vacate before Monday to allow free movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
