GAF Medical Facilities Remain Operational Amid Nurses’ Strike

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that its medical facilities are still operating and committed to serving the public despite the ongoing nationwide strike action by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). According to a press release issued on June 12, GAF has ramped up its healthcare services to ensure uninterrupted care for citizens.

“We have taken steps to ensure that our medical facilities continue to provide quality care to the public,” the GAF stated. The Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital, situated at the Air Force Officers Mess, is receiving walk-in patients in addition to attending to critical cases.

To accommodate the increased demand, the African Rapid Response Partnership is establishing a field hospital at the 37 Military Hospital, which is expected to be fully operational by June 13, 2025. “This facility will help accommodate more patients during this period,” the GAF explained.

At the 37 Military Hospital, alternative emergency arrangements have been made to maintain continuity of care. A temporary medical unit is currently handling critical cases while the main Medical Emergency Unit undergoes routine fumigation. The primary unit is expected to resume full operations by Saturday, June 14, 2025.

Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, visited several facilities to assess their readiness and announced a financial donation from the Military High Command to support the procurement of essential medical supplies.

The GAF has appealed to individuals and organizations to support their medical facilities with resources, reiterating their commitment to delivering quality critical and emergency healthcare throughout the ongoing crisis. “We are committed to delivering quality healthcare to the public, and we appeal for support to enable us to continue providing this service,” the GAF stated.
