A fresh survey from Global InfoAnalytics forecasts a win for National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Bernard Baidoo in the tightly fought Akwatia by-election set for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The poll, which interviewed 2,050 voters from August 27-28, shows Baidoo leading his main opponent, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Solomon K. Asumadu.
The final results indicate Baidoo holds 53% against Asumadu’s 47%, positioning the NDC contender favorably before the vote. The by-election, necessitated by the July 7 death of NPP MP Ernest Kumi, has attracted significant national attention.
Historically a swing seat, Akwatia has changed hands between the NDC and NPP for twenty years, making this race a key indicator for the 2028 general elections. The pollster stated the results “reflect not only party loyalty but also voter concerns about unemployment, economic hardship, and access to social amenities,” which are central campaign issues. It added that undecided voters “could either consolidate Baidoo’s lead or narrow the gap” for the NPP.
The vote will be heavily monitored, with security agencies promising a strong presence to prevent violence after recent electoral incidents.
