Manhunt On For Cigarette-Giving Suspect

The Ghana Police Service has initiated a search for a man captured on video allegedly offering a cigarette to a child. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the individual, while ensuring the child’s safety and well-being.

The public is being asked to provide any relevant information to aid in the investigation.

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has denounced the act, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding children. In a statement, the Ministry highlighted that exposing children to harmful substances is a form of abuse, violating their rights and dignity, and is punishable by law.

The incident contravenes the Children’s Act, 1998, which protects children from harm, and undermines the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy’s objectives. The Ministry emphasizes that such actions will not be tolerated, and those responsible will face consequences.
