The Ministry of Health Ghana has set up a committee to investigate the death of a 29-year-old engineer, Charles Amissah, following claims that he was denied emergency treatment at several hospitals in Accra.
Mr Amissah reportedly sustained injuries in a hit-and-run accident on February 6, 2026.
According to the ministry, reports indicate that he was denied emergency admission at the Police Hospital, the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The ministry said the committee will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine what led to the alleged denial of care.
It noted that the case has raised major public concern about the quality and accessibility of emergency healthcare services in Ghana.
As part of the investigation, the ministry is inviting the public, healthcare professionals, eyewitnesses and civil society organisations to submit written testimonies or relevant information about the incident and emergency healthcare experiences.
All submissions must be sent by March 11, 2026.
The ministry said public participation will help identify gaps in the system and support efforts to improve emergency healthcare delivery across the country.
