Corruption Fight Under Mahama Shows Progress – KAS/GIMPA Survey

A recent nationwide survey by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has revealed that many Ghanaians believe the fight against corruption has improved under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

The study, “Assessing Ghana’s Democratic Progress”, gauged public perceptions of governance, democratic values, and political leadership.

The findings show that across various demographics, the majority view is that corruption has decreased, indicating that government anti-corruption efforts are being acknowledged. “The data suggests that the government’s anti-corruption initiatives are resonating with a significant portion of the population,” the survey noted.

The survey, conducted a year into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s term, also evaluated citizens’ views on the administration’s performance. Respondents offered a cautiously optimistic assessment, with many describing the government’s overall performance as good or satisfactory. Economic management received mixed but largely positive ratings, with 44.5% of respondents rating it as good and 14.9% as excellent.

Despite this, Ghanaians still prioritize integrity in public leadership, ranking a strong commitment to fighting corruption as a key quality expected from a presidential candidate, alongside visionary leadership and sound economic management.
