Achimota Housemaster Threatens Legal Action Over False “Sextortion” Allegations

A Senior Housemaster at Achimota Senior High School, Mr. Emmanuel Hanson, has announced plans to take legal action against a former student and her mother after a police forensic investigation found no evidence to support allegations of “sextortion” made against him.

The dispute originates from an incident in November 2025, when Mr. Hanson confiscated a mobile phone from Ms. Musah Hafsatu Osmanu, then a student at the school, in line with institutional rules prohibiting possession of such devices on campus.

Following the completion of her WASSCE examinations and her departure from the school, Ms. Osmanu reportedly contacted Mr. Hanson on December 28, 2025, requesting the return of the device. Mr. Hanson informed her that the phone had already been handed over to the appropriate school authorities, a response that allegedly led to a breakdown in communication.

Mr. Hanson later stated that he received a phone call from a woman identifying herself as Ms. Osmanu’s mother, Madam Daayimatu Abdallah, followed by an audio message containing what he described as threats. He subsequently reported the matter to the Achimota Police Station.

During the course of the police investigation, Ms. Osmanu and her mother alleged for the first time that Mr. Hanson had demanded sexual favours via WhatsApp in exchange for returning the confiscated phone. They submitted printed screenshots of alleged conversations to support their claims. These materials were later circulated widely on social media and Achimota School-related online platforms, alongside reports suggesting that Mr. Hanson had been arrested and disgraced.

In response, Mr. Hanson petitioned the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and voluntarily submitted his mobile phone for forensic analysis.

According to a police report dated March 11, 2026, the forensic examination found no record of any WhatsApp communication between Mr. Hanson and the MTN number attributed to Ms. Osmanu. The report concluded that there was no evidence of any such interaction, effectively casting doubt on the authenticity of the screenshots that formed the basis of the allegations.

Following the release of the findings, Mr. Hanson has indicated his intention to pursue legal action, citing significant reputational damage resulting from what he describes as fabricated accusations.

His lawyer, Emmanuel Dei-Tumi Jr. of Kulendi@Law, stated that all legal options are being considered. He also called on the police to investigate the source and circulation of the alleged screenshots.
