The Mahama administration has announced that it will discuss Burkina Faso’s tomato export ban, which could affect Ghana’s supply.

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry is working with stakeholders to manage the impact and boost local production under ‘Feed Ghana’ and ‘Feed the Industry’ programs.

Burkina Faso’s government halted exports to prioritise local processing industries, suspending export permits and warning of sanctions for breaches.

Ghana’s Ministry appealed to traders to stay calm, expecting a resolution to restore trade flows between the two countries. The government assures efforts are underway to stabilize supply and support local production.

In a joint statement issued in Ouagadougou on Thursday, March 19, the Burkinabè government announced an immediate nationwide halt to tomato exports “until further notice,” explaining that the move is intended to prioritise domestic supply for local processing industries.
