The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has ordered the indefinite closure of Obuasi Secondary Technical School following a violent attack on the school’s headmaster by a group of students.
The decision was made after unrest on campus turned violent, forcing security agencies to intervene to restore calm and protect lives and property.
According to reports, tensions rose after some students alleged they saw the headmaster in a nearby bush burying a fetus. The students further claimed the incident was tied to accusations that the baby was from an alleged abortion involving a student.
Police have arrested six students in connection with the alleged assault on the headmaster and they are assisting with investigations.
The students also destroyed three bungalows, vehicles and other valuable property.
The Municipal Assembly said the indefinite closure was a precautionary step to ensure the safety of students, teaching and non-teaching staff and to prevent further disturbances on campus.
The headmaster’s condition has not been officially confirmed, though he is reported to have received treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after the attack.
