The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that an additional 600 Ghanaian nationals in South Africa have registered with Ghana’s High Commission for evacuation amid growing concerns over their safety and welfare.
In a post shared on Facebook, Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Ghanaian citizens abroad, stressing that the safety and dignity of Ghanaians remain a top priority.
“When the safety and dignity of Ghanaians are at stake, the Government of Ghana does not compromise or dither,” he stated.
The Minister indicated that the government is working closely with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in South Africa to coordinate evacuation arrangements and provide the necessary support to affected citizens.
Mr. Ablakwa also praised the resilience and determination demonstrated by Ghanaians caught up in the situation, noting that many have remained composed despite the challenges they face.
“I am immensely proud of the resilient spirit of Ghanaians,” he added.
The latest registrations significantly increase the number of citizens seeking assistance from Ghanaian authorities as concerns continue to mount over the security and wellbeing of Ghanaians residing in South Africa.
Government officials are expected to continue engaging with relevant stakeholders and authorities to facilitate a smooth evacuation process and ensure the safe return of all registered nationals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured affected citizens that it remains committed to providing support and taking all necessary steps to safeguard their interests until the situation is fully resolved.
