The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) will meet the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday, April 7, over rising fuel prices, as pressure mounts following recent petroleum cost hikes.
The meeting will focus on the impact of sharp price increases triggered by global tensions in the Middle East, which have hit transport operations and raised concerns about possible fare adjustments. Speaking on Citi FM’s News Digest on Saturday, April 4, GPRTU Public Relations Officer Alhaji Abass Imoro said drivers are increasingly urging leadership to respond as operating costs continue to rise.
He explained that the upcoming engagement with government will be crucial in determining the next steps for the sector.
“So God willing, after Tuesday’s meeting, then of course we know what to tell them. We are meeting the Transport Ministry. Normally the Transport Ministry stands in for the general public. When we finally come to a reasonable conclusion, after the meeting, we will think about our business and think about the citizens as well,” he added.
The meeting comes as fuel prices keep climbing, with the National Petroleum Authority indicating that petrol has risen about 15% to GH¢13.30 per litre, while diesel has increased roughly 19% to GH¢17.10 per litre for the April 1–15 pricing window, intensifying pressure on transport operators and commuters alike.
