Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has indicated that the country is making steady progress toward achieving debt sustainability, describing the development as a key milestone in its broader economic recovery.

According to the Minister, Ghana is transitioning from a phase of economic stabilisation to one focused on growth and expansion.

Dr Forson made these remarks after high-level discussions with Ousmane Diagana, Regional Vice President for Western and Central Africa at the World Bank.

The meeting took place on the margins of the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., reflecting renewed confidence among international partners in Ghana’s economic trajectory.

“Ghana has stabilised its economy and is firmly on the path to debt sustainability. We are now shifting focus from stabilisation to growth,” Dr Forson stated.

He noted that ongoing collaboration with development partners will prioritise four strategic areas aimed at enhancing productivity and generating employment. These include commercial agriculture and agribusiness, energy development—particularly gas-to-power and gas-to-fertiliser initiatives—education and human capital development, and infrastructure to facilitate the efficient movement of goods.

Dr Forson further emphasised the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline alongside growth-oriented investments.

“We will continue to uphold prudent fiscal management while safeguarding vulnerable groups,” he added.

He also welcomed the continued support of the World Bank, underscoring the importance of the partnership in consolidating recent economic gains and advancing Ghana’s efforts toward a more resilient and inclusive growth path.
