The lawyer for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Boss, Samuel Atta Akyea, has warned that his client may be forced to disclose sensitive national security information as part of his defense. Atta Akyea explained that the nature of the case could necessitate a full defense, which might involve delving into classified matters.
Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, Mr. Atta Akyea urged caution in managing the case, saying, “The way national security matters are being raised, he should come to terms with it. When push comes to shove, he has to defend himself.” He added that someone might later ask why a national intelligence officer is trying to bring national security matters into the public domain when sworn to secrecy.
Mr. Adu-Boahene remains in custody despite the court’s seven-working-day remand order having elapsed. The former security chief faces charges including stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. Atta Akyea informed the court that his client had been rearrested on a separate matter after the original remand period ended.
