The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has revealed that it has received three separate petitions regarding extortion allegations levelled against the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi.
The OSP disclosed that the petitions include a joint petition filed by two persons and two other individual petitions, all centred on the same allegations.
In a statement released on Monday, August 24, the anti-graft body said it had taken notice of the public claims and will examine the matter to establish whether it comes under its mandate.
It added that it will decide on whether further investigations are needed after the assessment.
The move comes after Mr Gyamfi accused Mr Afenyo-Markin of extortion, an allegation the Minority Leader has denied while signalling his intention to sue the GoldBod boss.
The row follows a public disagreement between the two over alleged losses of GH¢22 billion, about US$1.7 billion, linked to the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme in 2025.
In a related development, the United Party has petitioned the Attorney-General and other anti-corruption and security agencies to probe the alleged extortion against the Minority Leader.
That petition was submitted by the party’s Communications Director, Solomon Owusu, and Legal Director, Andrew Appiah-Danquah.
