The African Education Watch (Eduwatch) has urged the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to conclude all investigations into suspected examination malpractice prior to the release of results.
The Executive Director of Eduwatch, Kofi Asare, warned that publishing results while some candidates remain under probe could hinder their tertiary education admissions.
He noted that some candidates are often forced to await investigation outcomes, sometimes missing admission deadlines entirely.
Mr Asare said Eduwatch previously proposed that WAEC finalise all probes before releasing results, so candidates would immediately know if their results were cancelled or confirmed.
“We suggested to government that we finish all investigations before releasing results, so from day one, everyone knows their status—rather than holding some to ransom while they wait until admissions are over,” he stated.
He admitted, however, that completing all probes beforehand could delay publication if WAEC lacks enough staff.
He added that boosting WAEC’s capacity would be essential to speed up investigations without causing major delays in result release.
