Police Warn Public Over Fake Traffic Violation Notice Circulating Online

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public against a fraudulent electronic traffic violation notice circulating on social media and messaging platforms, describing it as fake and unauthorised.

In a statement, the Service said it had noted “with deep concern” a viral notice purportedly issued by the Police, which claims recipients have committed traffic offences and must pay fines.

According to the Police, the message is not genuine and did not originate from the Service. Authorities stressed that the notice is “false, fraudulent, invalid, and not coming from the Police Service.”

The fake notification reportedly informs individuals that they have breached certain traffic regulations and directs them to make payments. However, the Police clarified that no such electronic enforcement system has been rolled out.

The Service also issued a strong warning to persons responsible for creating and sharing the false messages, describing the act as criminal.

“All persons circulating these notifications are to stop immediately,” the statement said, adding that perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the Police disclosed that work is underway with key state institutions to introduce a legitimate automated traffic law enforcement system.

The Service said it is collaborating with the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transport, National Road Safety Authority, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Insurance Commission, and the Ministry of Finance on the initiative.

Together, the institutions are engaging Parliament of Ghana to amend road traffic regulations to enable the implementation of a new programme known as Traffitech-GH in the coming months.

The Police assured the public that further updates will be provided as consultations progress.
