An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail of GH¢50,000 each, with two sureties, to a motorbike rider accused of robbery and a trader charged with dishonestly receiving stolen property.
The accused, Joel Armah, also known as “Stop 10,” and Gideon Awuah, also known as “Bongo,” pleaded not guilty to their respective charges.
Armah is also facing a conspiracy charge for allegedly planning with an accomplice identified as Jibril, alias “Wale,” who is currently on the run, to rob a woman of her handbag containing valuables and cash.
Presiding judge Basilia Adjei-Tawiah ruled that one surety for each accused must be a salaried worker earning at least GH¢2,500, while the second surety must be justified. The case has been adjourned to February 26, 2026.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah told the court that the complainant, Madam Eva Vera Tetteh-Fio, a medical doctor living at Dansoman-Sahara, was attacked in the early hours of January 2, 2026.
According to the prosecution, at about 12:10 a.m., Armah and Jibril were riding an Apsonic motorbike when they spotted the complainant walking along Adotey Mingle Street with a backpack and a paper bag. Armah allegedly stopped near her, after which Jibril got down, pulled out a machete, attacked her and seized the bags.
The stolen items included an iPhone 16 Pro Max valued at GH¢13,000, a wristwatch, passport, Ghana Card, clothing, a Yellow Fever card, and cash amounting to GH¢16,000 and US$10.
The suspects allegedly fled on the motorbike and later sold the phone to Awuah for GH¢2,000 around 2:00 a.m. the same day.
Police investigations began after a report was filed, leading to Armah’s arrest on January 10, 2026, at his hideout in Bukom. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted the offence and mentioned Jibril as his accomplice and Awuah as the receiver in his caution statement.
Awuah was subsequently arrested and also allegedly admitted to the offence. After investigations, both men were formally charged before the court, while police continue efforts to apprehend the third suspect.
