The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has strongly refuted reports alleging that it provided a GH¢12 million sponsorship package to the national football team, describing the claims as false and unfounded.
In a public notice, the Board dismissed suggestions that funds meant for cocoa farmers had been redirected to support the Ghana national football team, stressing that no such financial support had been provided.
“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the statement emphasised.
COCOBOD reiterated that its core mandate remains the welfare of cocoa farmers, including ensuring timely payments for cocoa purchases, supplying farm inputs, providing extension services, and investing in the long-term sustainability of the cocoa sector.
The Board urged the public to disregard the circulating reports and rely only on its official communication channels for accurate information.
The clarification comes amid heightened public scrutiny over how state institutions allocate resources, with COCOBOD seeking to reassure stakeholders — particularly cocoa farmers — that their interests remain its top priority.
