The Ghana Police Service says it will enforce a High Court order prohibiting the planned “Stop Galamsey” demonstration scheduled for February 27, 2026.
In a statement dated February 26, the Accra Regional Police Command disclosed that a High Court in Accra had, on February 24, granted an Order for Prohibition restraining the conveners from holding the protest.
According to the Police, the order — issued in the interest of public order and safety — was duly served on the organisers. The Command noted that the planned protest coincides with the President’s State of the Nation Address, raising additional security concerns.
The Police also dismissed claims circulating on social media that the organisers had not been served with the court process, insisting that the order was properly delivered in accordance with due process.
“The Accra Regional Police Command will enforce the High Court Order in accordance with the law,” the statement emphasised.
However, the Command indicated its willingness to engage the organisers to agree on a new date for the demonstration, in line with the Public Order Act.
The public has been urged to comply with the court directive and avoid actions that could breach the peace.
The statement, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to upholding constitutional rights while maintaining law and order.
