A Ghanaian peacekeeper injured in a missile strike on a UN base in southern Lebanon is recovering, according to the United Nations.
Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) was among those deployed under UNIFIL when their base was hit in early March.
Three personnel had minor injuries, while Busia, who was critically injured, “successfully undergone surgery and [is] responding to treatment”. The UN and Ghana Armed Forces are calling for protection of peacekeepers, with the UN stating, “Indeed peacekeepers are not a target” #NotATarget.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has petitioned UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, to investigate and sanction those responsible.
