Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has blasted the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) warning against teachers picketing during work hours, calling it unconstitutional.
GES cited teachers bypassing admin channels, but Afenyo-Markin asserted that it infringed on their right to demonstrate.
Addressing Parliament, he urged Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, to brief them, saying “you cannot use administrative fiat to deny somebody’s constitutional bona fides”.
He pushed for Finance Minister, Dr Casiel Ato Forson, to clear teacher recruitments, adding “the teachers are suffering. Put pressure on the finance minister… tell him to approve recruitment”. Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasised the need for teacher employment, saying “is it a sin to be trained as a teacher?”
