The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced Ghana’s 11th bilateral debt restructuring agreement, this time with Export-Import Bank of India, marking progress in restoring debt sustainability.
“I recently signed Ghana’s 11th bilateral debt restructuring agreement, this time with EXIM India,” he said.
The minister expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic outlook, noting indicators point to a low risk of debt distress.
“We are moving steadily towards a low risk of debt distress, with clear indicators that the worst is behind us,” he stated.
Dr. Forson reaffirmed the government’s commitment to meeting obligations and maintaining fiscal discipline.
“Our commitment is firm: to honour all restructured obligations on time and to keep debt sustainability at the core of every financing decision going forward,” he said.
Plans are underway to introduce a new Loans Act to tighten borrowing and prioritize value-for-money investments. “Ghana will not return to a path of unsustainable borrowing,” Dr. Forson emphasised.
The deal with EXIM India is expected to strengthen Ghana’s debt restructuring programme and rebuild investor confidence.
