The Ministry of Health, Ghana, has intensified efforts to strengthen leadership, accountability, and training standards across Health Training Institutions (HTIs) through a targeted capacity-building workshop.
The initiative, held under the theme “Strengthening Leadership and Institutional Excellence in Public Health Training Institutions,” forms part of broader reforms aimed at building a skilled, well-distributed, and future-ready health workforce.
Addressing participants, Deputy Minister for Health, Grace Ayensu-Danquah, underscored the critical role of HTIs in shaping Ghana’s healthcare system. She stressed the need to move beyond increasing numbers to prioritising the development of professionals with specialised skills to manage increasingly complex health conditions.
She also called for the integration of technology, innovation, and global partnerships to modernise health education and respond effectively to evolving healthcare demands.

On financial management, Prof. Ayensu-Danquah urged strict adherence to the Public Financial Management Act, emphasising transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.
Director of Human Resources at the Ministry, Fred Acheampong, highlighted the importance of strong corporate governance in building a resilient health system.
He noted that effective leadership must go beyond administration to include accountability, regulatory compliance, and strategic oversight, supported by robust communication and data-driven reporting systems.
The Ministry says it remains committed to strengthening institutional leadership and advancing reforms aimed at improving training standards and enhancing healthcare delivery nationwide.
