The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commended the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for a significant reduction in violent crimes, particularly armed robbery.
He made the remarks at the Department’s WASSA 2025 celebration held at the CID Headquarters, where he highlighted improved crime statistics for the period under review.
According to the Minister, armed robbery cases declined by 5.1 percent, with 1,142 cases recorded compared to the previous year. Highway robbery also saw a sharper drop, decreasing from 312 to 228 cases following targeted operations along major transport corridors.

“The overall crime situation has shown considerable improvement in recent times, largely attributable to prompt responses to crime scenes, intelligence-led policing strategies, and enhanced community engagement,” he said.
Mr. Muntaka further disclosed that the government is supporting efforts to modernise policing, including upgrades to the fingerprint system and increased investment in artificial intelligence to strengthen criminal intelligence analysis and combat complex cybercrime.
He expressed optimism that the CID and the wider Police Service would achieve even greater successes in the coming year, urging personnel to remain committed to professionalism and the pursuit of justice.

In her remarks, Director-General of CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, thanked the Inspector-General of Police and officers for their dedication during what she described as a demanding year.
She said the WASSA celebration provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements while reinforcing unity within the department.
COP Donkor also highlighted progress in tackling cybercrime, noting the use of digital platforms such as Meta and TikTok for intelligence gathering.
She added that improved child protection measures had led to the safe recovery of missing children and urged officers to uphold integrity, accountability, dignity, and unity in the discharge of their duties.
