Four individuals have been arrested following renewed violent clashes in the Nkwanta South Municipality, prompting a swift response from security agencies.
The arrests were confirmed by Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong after an emergency meeting between the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC).
According to the Minister, one of the suspects has been remanded at Kete-Krachi Prison, while the remaining three are assisting police with ongoing investigations.
The resurgence of unrest comes despite multiple mediation efforts by leaders of the Adele, Akyode, and Challa ethnic groups to resolve longstanding tensions in the area. The Minister expressed concern over the return of violence even after sustained dialogue.
In response, the government has significantly increased security deployment, sending over 120 police officers and more than 150 military personnel to restore order and prevent further escalation.
Authorities say the measures aim to protect lives and property while reassuring residents and workers in the municipality.
Minister Gyapong urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities as efforts continue to stabilise the area.
Security forces continue to closely monitor the situation, intensifying operations to maintain peace and prevent further clashes.
