Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to provide a clear roadmap for completing the delayed collation of parliamentary election results in Ablekuma North Constituency. The constituency remains without a Member of Parliament months after the 2024 general elections due to disputes over the outcome.
Dr. Yohuno warned that further delays could harm Ghana’s democratic credibility and emphasized the need for swift action to restore public confidence. Ahead of a meeting with the EC, he said: “The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a roadmap for the formalisation of the collation.”
He described the situation as critical, stating: “This is a pivotal moment. The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country. It will set the tone, not only for this election, but also for public confidence in the years to come.”
The IGP appealed to all parties to work towards a peaceful and timely resolution, urging: “Let us secure not just the ballot boxes but also the belief in the system. Let us not protect just physical lives but also the spirit of democracy.”
