Accra’s only public horse racing course at Borteyman has reportedly been destroyed by unidentified individuals, allegedly operating under security protection.
The facility, located adjacent to the Borteyman Sports Complex, has served as one of the major venues for horse racing activities in the capital. Its destruction has therefore raised concerns among stakeholders over the future of the sport in Accra.
The leadership of the Accra Turf Club is seeking a court injunction to halt further activities at the site as it works to protect the facility and prevent additional destruction or any attempt to take over the land.
Members of Ghana’s horse racing community have expressed concern about the development, warning that the loss of the Borteyman facility could significantly undermine the growth and sustainability of horse racing in the capital.
The Accra Turf Club is expected to pursue legal measures to safeguard the site and preserve what remains of one of the city’s few dedicated facilities for horse racing.
