The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, the Paramount Chief of Kenyase II, during a meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council held on Monday, 27 July 2026.

Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, who was enstooled in 1937, had occupied the stool for 89 years, making him the longest-reigning Paramount Chief in Asanteman.

According to proceedings of the Traditional Council, the destoolment followed findings that he had violated Asante customs and traditions.

The Traditional Council also destooled nearly all of his kingmakers after determining that they had breached their oath of office.

However, the Asantehene spared the Kontihene and reinstated the destooled Akyeame and other linguists of the traditional council.

The decision was taken during the Asanteman Traditional Council meeting, where the Asantehene exercised his authority as custodian of Asante customs and traditions.
