The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for the completion of the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal, citing its potential to create jobs and drive economic growth across northern Ghana.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace during a meeting with officials from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority led by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, he warned that delays risk financial losses despite significant investments by the Ghana Shippers Authority and other partners.
He stressed that sustained funding and visible progress are essential to attract investors, noting that the project has stalled for nearly two decades and is behind schedule due to financing constraints.
Consultants indicate only about 6% overall progress, though some components are near completion. Work on key elements such as the interchange remains pending.
Officials say completing the terminal will enhance cargo handling, improve revenue, and support national development, even as efforts continue to secure investment and advance supporting infrastructure such as rail.
