Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has expressed confidence that Ghana’s economy will grow beyond the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) revised projection of 5.7 per cent for 2026.
His optimism follows the Fund’s decision to raise its growth forecast for Ghana from 4.6 per cent in April to 5.7 per cent, representing an upward revision of 1.1 percentage points.
“The IMF has upgraded Ghana’s 2026 growth forecast from 4.6% to 5.7%. We are confident we will exceed that projection,” he stated.
Dr Forson said the government remained committed to fiscal discipline and the economic reforms underpinning the country’s recovery.
Ato Forson reaffirms commitment to economic reforms
The Finance Minister made the remarks after meeting the Director of the IMF’s African Department, Zeine Zeidane, on the sidelines of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
He said discussions with the IMF official provided an opportunity to reaffirm the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal credibility and pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening the economy.
“In Bangkok, I met with the IMF’s African Department Director, Zeine Zeidane, and reaffirmed our commitment to the fiscal credibility, discipline and bold reforms powering Ghana’s economic turnaround,” he said.
The government’s expectation of growth above the IMF’s 5.7 per cent forecast signals its confidence in the economic recovery programme and the measures being implemented to sustain growth in 2026.
