Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been released after the State discontinued a case involving an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Ayitey Powers appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court on Wednesday, September 2, after spending about a week on remand.
He was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on August 24 following the circulation of a social media video in which he was allegedly heard threatening the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.
His arrest followed a complaint by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC).
The State subsequently withdrew the case, leading the court to discontinue the proceedings and paving the way for Ayitey Powers’ release.
