The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has announced financial support for traders hit by the recent blaze at Nima Market in Accra.

After inspecting the site, Alhaji Baba Jamal told reporters he would personally give GH¢5,000 to each affected trader to help them restart their businesses after the fire destroyed their goods.

He also urged the government to back the building of a modern market facility in the constituency to create better trading conditions and reduce the risk of similar incidents.

“Seeing that this is a serious tragedy that has affected our people last night, my MCE and NADMO officials all rushed here and were able to help. But you can see that some serious devastation has taken place. I want to send my heartfelt sympathies to the people who have lost their wares, and also to all the people who are in this market.

“I call on the government, our President, and the entire nation to come and assist in these difficult times. A few people who have been affected, they have given me their list. And so on my own, I want to offer GH¢5,000 to each of the victims in the interim.”
