Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East Constituency, Baba Jamal, is expected to be sworn into office today, March 10.

The swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, at Parliament of Ghana.

Mr Jamal won the parliamentary seat in the by-election held on March 3, securing victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His election followed a closely contested race involving candidates from several political parties and an independent contender.

In a Facebook post on Monday, March 9, Mr Jamal thanked constituents for the opportunity to represent them in Parliament.

He said he was humbled by the trust placed in him and pledged to work with residents to improve the constituency.

According to the official results, Mr Jamal obtained 10,884 votes to defeat Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 4,009 votes.

Independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda secured 1,885 votes, while Ibrahim Idrissu received 43 votes and Kanor David obtained 104 votes.
