Priscilla Mensah’s 85th-minute strike rescues a point for Ghana after a thrilling six-goal encounter.
Ghana’s Black Maidens staged a spirited comeback to draw 3-3 with Brazil at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday night, with Priscilla Mensah scoring five minutes from time to deny the South Americans victory.
In a pulsating six-goal encounter, Ghana demonstrated resilience by recovering from an early setback and responding twice after Brazil regained the lead.
The result earns the Black Maidens their first point of the tournament after two matches, keeping their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage alive.
Brazil made a bright start and opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game through Nicolly, putting Ghana under early pressure.
However, the Black Maidens gradually settled into the contest and found their equaliser in the 31st minute when Rafia Osman struck to make it 1-1.
Ghana seized the momentum shortly afterwards, with Gloria Ameaa scoring in the 35th minute to give the West Africans a 2-1 lead and raise hopes of a memorable victory against one of the tournament favourites.
Brazil responded just before half-time, as Kaillany Rafinah found the net in the 44th minute to restore parity at 2-2.
The South Americans returned from the break with renewed purpose and reclaimed the lead in the 57th minute through Indy, leaving Ghana with another deficit to overcome.
Refusing to surrender, the Maidens pushed forward in search of an equaliser as the match entered its closing stages.
Their persistence paid off in the 85th minute when Mensah found the back of the net to level the score at 3-3, securing a valuable point for Ghana.
The draw leaves the Black Maidens with one point from two matches, placing them at the bottom of Group C. Nevertheless, their qualification hopes remain intact ahead of their final group-stage fixture.
Ghana will now turn their attention to Canada in what promises to be a crucial encounter, with a positive result potentially determining their chances of progressing to the next round.
