The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has announced the commencement of payments of outstanding salary arrears owed to workers in the education and health sectors after months of delays.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Department said the arrears, dating back to August 2024, will be settled in four equal instalments over the next few months.

According to the CAGD, the payment plan will run from May to August 2026, with each tranche covering part of the accumulated arrears owed to affected workers.

The first instalment is expected to be completed by Friday, May 29, 2026.

The Department indicated that the remaining payments will be made in June, July, and August until all outstanding arrears are fully cleared.

“The Department further states that the remaining tranches will be paid in accordance with the approved schedule stated above,” the statement signed by Cephas N. Dosoo, Head of Public Relations, noted.

The announcement is expected to provide relief to teachers and health workers who have waited several months for payment of their entitlements.

Although the CAGD did not disclose the total amount involved or the number of beneficiaries affected, it explained that the phased payment approach is intended to ensure full settlement without causing additional delays.

“CAGD thanks all affected beneficiaries for their patience and forbearance,” the statement added.
